Cleveland Escorts: Donald Leathers — From pimp and drug user to man who wants to help others …

He brags that he once supervised as many as a dozen prostitutes at a time and earned $1,000 a night.
But the lifestyle also brought on prison time and decades of drug addiction.
Now, at 67 years old, the man who once drove a 1965 Rolls Royce hopes a book he wrote during his most recent prison term that ended two years ago will show others the errors of his ways.
“I wanted to make a statement to someone who goes to prison or is on drugs,” he said. “They can still make it if they apply themselves or go to school and take advantage of the resources available to them.”

After working as a pimp in the North Howard Street district near downtown, Leathers found himself in big trouble with the law. He wound up spending four years in prison from 1974 to 1978 for promoting prostitution.

Eventually, he stopped supervising prostitutes in the 1980s but found himself in prison three more times for drug convictions.

Fla. Gov. signs bill to ban EBT cards at casinos Updated 4:11 pm, Thursday, May 30, 2013
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday signed 36 bills into law including one that bans welfare recipients from using EBT cards at “adult entertainment establishments” like strip clubs and casinos.
The governor also signed a contentious environmental permitting bill, a measure dealing with “cyberbulling,” and a bill dealing with school safety procedures.
The legislation (HB 701) targeting EBT cards created a heated debate in the Legislature.
EBT cards — standing for electronic benefit transfer — are like debit cards. Welfare recipients use them to draw down their benefits.
Critics called the bill offensive to poor people. But the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Jimmie Smith, said that voting against his measure was like “voting for lap dances on taxpayer dollars.”

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Workers stage a walkout at the East Akron Community House

Posted in Cleveland adult entertainment by clevelandconfidential on the June 9, 2013

East Akron Community House has been plagued by complaints — from current and former workers — over leadership and money ever since it parted ways with its longtime executive director in late 2010.
Since then, the agency has been in transition with a new executive director, new board of directors and new programs.
Agency leaders have dismissed complaints in the past, blaming disgruntled employees. They also say that substantial changes were needed to instill new life into a 100-year-old organization that has struggled with its finances and role in the community.
EACH was founded in 1911 as Akron’s only settlement house. It became a vocal advocate for residents in East Akron. In its heyday, the group led fights against prostitution and other crime in the neighborhood. It also championed the construction of the Middlebury shopping plaza and helped bring a much-needed grocery store into the area.

Cleveland Escorts: Elyria Prostitution Ring Leads FBI to Sex-Trafficking Charges

Posted in Cleveland escorts by clevelandhobbyist on the June 6, 2013

According to FBI special agent Kelly Liberti, Onysko “worked for” Mack in advertising various girls online for escort services. Onysko reportedly distributed to the girls heroin to keep them from becoming overly ill as they worked. Drugs were often used as a lure to create a relationship of debt – one that would lead to being paid off through prostitution.
Onysko, who lived with Mack, told investigators that after a girl became indebted to Mack, she created listings on websites such as Backpage.com and Craigslist.com advertising their “escort services.” For instance, one of the ads read, “Sexy Cierra is waiting for you…-19: I cater to fetishes, domination, role-playing, private dancing, massages, whatever you desire … call now and allow me to take you to the heights of ecstasy.” Between December and April, Onysko and Mack advertised the services of 10 different women online, Liberti wrote. Onysko also fielded calls from clients, setting up appointments for the prostitutes with the men who responded to the ads. The …

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Placemaking to Make Friends: The Case of Cleveland’s East 4th Street

Posted in Cleveland adult entertainment by clevelandconfidential on the June 6, 2013

Maron is part of the LOCUS network of smart-growth-oriented real estate developers, which operates under the aegis of Smart Growth America. LOCUS shows that walkable communities aren’t just pretty and good for the environment — they generate wealth. Not all developers are in it to make friends, after all — they want to turn a profit. The good news is, they can do both.
Maron told his story to a LOCUS conference yesterday in Washington, DC. He said his family firm, MRN Ltd., bought 15 historic buildings in the downtown core, focusing on East 4
Street. The ground floor were all drug fronts, and the street was a center of prostitution. The upper floors were all vacant. There were 250 property owners to deal with, and the big developers just weren’t willing to bother. But Maron and his family bought them out.
