STRIP CLUBS-LAWSUIT
CLEVELAND (AP) – Look but don’t touch. That’s the gist of a ruling from a federal judge in Cleveland. The judge has upheld Ohio’s “no-touch” law for strip clubs. The law bans physical contact between strippers and their customers or between the strippers themselves. A trade group that represents adult businesses challenged the no-touch law, saying it could even be applied to ballet dancers. But the judge ruled the law doesn’t violate free speech or other constitutional rights. No reaction yet from the club owners.
HUNDREDS OF HATS
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) – Hats off to Nat Flemming. For more than a-half century he collected cowboy hats. Flemming owned a Wichita Falls, Texas, western wear store called The Cow Lot. He would hang up his customers’ old hats when they bought a new one. Now that Flemming has retired, his unique 10-gallon collection is going to the Museum of North Texas History. More than 500 his cowboy hats will go on display next month. A local TV station (KAUZ) reports Flemming would even put a customer’s ID on tags on the hats before he would hang them up.

Judge in Ohio upholds “no touch” strip club law
The Associated Press

CLEVELAND — A federal judge has upheld Ohio’s “no-touch” law for strip clubs.
U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver Jr. in Cleveland says the state law that bans exotic dancers from touching patrons or each other does not violate First Amendment or other constitutional rights of the business owners.
The Buckeye Association of Club Executives, a trade group that represents cabarets and adult bookstores, sought to overturn the 2007 law, saying the ban is overly broad and could be applied to ballet dancers or other mainstream theatrical performers.
Oliver disagreed in his ruling Monday.
There was no immediate response from a lawyer who represented the adult businesses in the lawsuit.

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Duhamel Torres, former Cleveland cop, sentenced to a year in …

Posted in Cleveland adult entertainment by clevelandconfidential on the June 23, 2009

CLEVELAND — Duhamel Torres, a former Cleveland police officer, will spend a year in prison for having sex with a prostitute while on duty last year.

But before Torres was sentenced, his attorney, Patrick D’Angelo, called into question the credibility of a woman who has bounced in and out of the system for years and currently is serving a year in prison on drug charges. D’Angelo called the victim a career criminal who knows how to game the system, and he accused her of using her cooperation in the Torres investigation as a bargaining chip with police and judges. The lawyer told a different story of what happened on Dec. 8, 2008. He said the prostitute consented to performing oral sex on Torres, for which he paid her $5. No violence occurred, and Torres did not coerce the prostitute or threaten to take her into custody on the arrest warrants if she didn’t comply, D’Angelo said.

Judge upholds law for Ohio strip clubs

A federal judge has upheld Ohio’s ”no-touch” law for strip clubs in Akron and around the state. A group of adult entertainment owners and the Buckeye Association of Club Executives, a not-for-profit trade group that represents cabarets and adult bookstores, had sued in U.S. District Court seeking to have the state’s no-touch law declared unconstitutional. Akron was among several cities and counties named as defendants in the lawsuit filed in October 2007. The suit came in reaction to new state laws covering exotic dance clubs and adult bookstores. Judge Solomon Oliver Jr., in a 45-page decision released Monday, granted motions by local government attorneys to have the suit dismissed. A message left with Berkman, Gordon, Murray & DeVan, a Cleveland law firm representing the adult entertainment groups, was not returned. Oliver found that the state law that bans exotic dancers and customers from touching each other does not violate First Amendment or other constitutional rights of the busine …

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Indoor vice claims denied by Cleveland Police chiefs

Posted in Cleveland adult entertainment by clevelandconfidential on the June 23, 2009

PROSTITUTION in Middlesbrough may be as prolific as ever despite a police crackdown, it was claimed today.
Many vice girls are now peddling their trade behind closed doors after a police blitz on kerb-crawlers wiped out much of the street business, a former prostitute told the Gazette.
And there may be as many women selling their bodies – now striking deals over mobile phones – as before in Middlesbrough, one campaigner said.
However, Cleveland Police chiefs said that, while some prostitutes had moved indoors, they denied there were the same numbers working now compared to six years ago.

But one former prostitute, who started working the streets aged 16, claimed there were as many vice girls as ever. The woman, who sold her body to feed a heroin and crack cocaine habit, is now clean and working in a bar.

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Child Molestation And Rape

Posted in Cleveland adult entertainment by clevelandconfidential on the June 22, 2009

… While sec. 376 IPC seeks to provide redress against rape to women, it rarely covers the broad range of sexual abuse (particularly of children), that actually takes place.
•    Most of these forms of abuse are sought to be covered under sec. 354 of the Indian Penal Code as a violation of a woman’s modesty. Though offences under Sec. 354 of the IPC are cognizable, they are also bailable, allowing the perpetrator to abscond before the case comes up in court.
•    The Juvenile Justice Act, amended and rewritten in 2000, makes no attempt to identify sexual abuse on children. Sec. 23 of the Act deals with assault, exposes, willful neglect, mental and physical suffering, for which imprisonment prescribed, is only for 6 months.
•    Section 5 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act 1956 prescribes punishment of not less than 7 years for inducing a child into prostitution, but does not directly address child abuse.
