DVD extras include commentary by director Scott Hamilton Kennedy, additional scenes and a good interview of Kennedy by film critic David Poland.
Getting back to scripted productions, actress Lori Petty (A League of Their Own) makes an impressive debut as a director with The Poker House (Phase 4 Films, $29.99), which she also co-wrote based on her own youth. Even more impressive is the performance by Jennifer Lawrence as Agnes, the character based on Petty.
Agnes and her two sisters live in the “poker house” — a hangout for lowlifes — with their drugged-out mother (Selma Blair) and her pimp boyfriend (Bokeem Woodbine). Agnes is managing to make a bearable life for herself and her sisters, but the temptations and terrors of the world around her are hard to overcome.

NEW YORK (AP) — Musicians worldwide are paying tribute to Les Paul, the music icon whose solid-body electric guitar paved the way for rock ‘n’ roll. He died this week at age 94. Paul, a guitar virtuoso, performed with some of early pop’s biggest names and produced a slew of hits, many with wife Mary Ford. But it was his inventive streak that made him universally revered by guitar gods as their original ancestor and earned his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the most important forces in popular music.
Residents on edge as 9 women vanish from N.C. city
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (AP) – They spent their nights jumping in and out of strange cars, trolling otherwise empty streets lined with decaying storefronts and boarded-up homes. Many sold sex to support drug habits or children left in the care of worried, hardworking grandmothers. Even when they were picked up for drugs or prostitution, nights in jail looming, they called home to let their families know they were OK. Then, one by one, the calls stopped.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: Judge issues mixed ruling on Austintown Cabaret

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the August 18, 2009

The order prevents the Ohio Liquor department from taking away the Go Go Cabaret’s liquor license.
The judge would not issue a temporary restraining order that would allow them to keep displaying signs that the township regards as questionable.
Sebastian Rucci, owner of the Go Go Cabaret, said he is being unfairly targeted by officials for political and financial gain.
“They have shown reckless disregard for the public’s purse, as the public will have to pay for their disregard for the law,” Rucci said.
Rucci said the officials have not objected to similar businesses with similar signs as his club.
“The failed attempt to close the Go Go is not about a soccer mom trying to close the only strip club in town because of her personal beliefs,” Rucci said.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: Elyria’s Club 57 closes for good

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the August 18, 2009

The controversial strip club closed Saturday as part of an agreement owner David Shapiro reached with city officials to stop the city’s efforts to have him held in contempt of court for allegedly allowing strippers to expose more of themselves than a judge’s order said they could.
Shapiro had little to say about the closure of the club he opened in February 2006. He called his employees “good people” when reached for comment Monday, shortly after signing a court document that required the club to close.

Assistant Elyria Law Director Mike Szekely had asked Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Mark Betleski to hold Shapiro in contempt after undercover Elyria police officers observed strippers violating the judge’s order in December and February.
Betleski ruled in November that the club could remain open as long as the strippers kept their genitalia and portions of their breasts covered.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: Stallworth suspended by NFL for 2009 season

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the August 14, 2009

While Stallworth served a 30 day jail sentence for this act, and reached an undisclosed financial settlement with the family of Reyes, the NFL felt he still owed a debt to the league. In fact in a letter to Stallworth, Goodell put it rather bluntly,  “Your conduct endangered yourself and others, leading to the death of an innocent man, The NFL and NFL players must live with the stain that you have placed on their reputations.”
Since becoming Commissioner Goodell has implemented a players code of conduct to combat the culture of guns, strip club parties, and even do fighting that is so prevalent among the NFL players. This culture has led to many an arrest, even a murder of an NFL player. It is a public relations problem that Goodell is right to take a hard stance on.

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: ASBO identities kept secret to protect human rights

Posted in Cleveland adult entertainment by clevelandconfidential on the August 13, 2009

The Gazette asked Cleveland Police to release photos and details of eight individuals who have recently been given ASBOs so they could be published in the paper.
But the force declined – even though all eight are currently on full public view on Cleveland Police’s website.
Force chiefs said that releasing ASBO details to the Gazette would not be “proportionate”, and that they had to consider issues of human rights and data protection.
They added that Cleveland Police was the only force in the country to publicise ASBOs on its website.
But the decision was slammed today, amid claims the public deserved every opportunity to see that justice had been done.
The ASBOs included prohibitions on behaviour such as harassment, being drunk and disorderly, begging, possession of drugs, abusing council staff, prostitution, pretending to threaten suicide, improper sexual advances, throwing stones, carrying knives and spitting.
