Cleveland Strip Clubs: Arenas Tries Contrition: Wiz’ Guard Apologies For Behavior

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the January 7, 2010

He issued a statement of apology after a photo was released showing him pointing his fingers, as if they were guns, to teammates who looked on while laughing.
“I feel very badly that my actions have caused the NBA to suspend me, but I understand why the league took this action,” Arenas said. “I put the NBA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. While I never intended any harm or disrespect to the NBA, or anyone else, my gun possession at the Verizon Center and my attempts at humor showed terrible judgment. I take full responsibility for my conduct.”
The NBA has had issues with guns and its players in the past, including Sebastian Telfair, suspended three games after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in 2008.
Stephen Jackson was hit with a seven game ban in 2007 after taking shots outside an Indiana strip club in 2007.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: Former Club 57 building sold for $10 in settlement

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the January 7, 2010

ELYRIA — The former home of the Club 57 strip club has been sold to a California-based property company for $10 as part of a settlement in a foreclosure lawsuit, according to county records.
The controversial strip club, housed in the old Mountain Jack’s restaurant next to the Elyria Holiday Inn, closed in August following years of legal battles with the city.
Closing the club was part of a deal that ended a series of legal problems for club owner David Shapiro, who in addition to his fight with the city was also facing criminal charges for allowing a 15-year-old girl to strip at the club.
Shapiro received probation in the criminal case after taking a plea bargain and agreeing to never again operate a club, bar or other establishment with a liquor permit anywhere in the state of Ohio.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: David Stern’s double standard shows in Gilbert Arenas case

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the January 7, 2010

After a dispute with teammate Javaris Crittenton over a gambling debt in December, Arenas lay an unloaded gun on a chair at the next practice. It was reported by the New York Post the players pointed guns at each other, which both parties disputed. Arenas said the incident was a practical joke without harmful intent.
“People assume they are thugs in basketball sneakers,” said Todd Boyd, a professor at USC and author of “Young, Black, Rich and Famous: The Rise of the NBA, the Hip Hop Invasion, and the Transformation of American Culture.”
“A stereotypical story was written, which wasn’t true. But it perpetuated the beliefs that NBA players are wealthy thugs.”
It seems Stern has set a precedent with the suspension.
But consider the past transgressions in which Stern has had to make tough decisions:
• Stephen Jackson, who has a criminal past, was suspended seven games after firing a gun outside a strip club in 2007.

… No gun-related suspension in the NBA in the 2000s has resulted in a suspension longer than the seven-game ban received by Stephen Jackson in 2007. Jackson pled guilty to one count of felony criminal recklessness after firing five shots into the air in a dispute outside an Indianapolis strip club in 2006 involving then-teammate Jamaal Tinsley, during which Jackson was hit by a car. Yet the majority of the NBA’s gun incidents over the past decade — apart from the Mills’ incident and Sebastian Telfair’s possession of a gun on the Trail Blazers’ team plane in 2006 — did not occur on league property. That is one reason why numerous league insiders expect Stern to ultimately hit Arenas with a heavy suspension, no matter what the scale of his legal penalties.” Marc Stein for ESPN.com

Cleveland Strip Clubs: NBA should punish Arenas now

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the January 6, 2010

Players are subject to discipline if they bring guns to the arena, practice facility or offsite promotional appearance. Arenas, who said he moved the unloaded firearms out of his Virginia home and into his locker to keep them away from his young children, violated this rule the second he walked into Verizon Center with them on his person.
There’s no gray area here. And no need for interpretation. Regardless of his intentions — and regardless of the legal ramifications — Arenas acted foolishly and knowingly broke a league rule. What should come next from NBA commissioner David Stern is a heavy suspension and fine.
The league, however, is waiting for the ongoing investigation to play out. This is a predictable, yet unnecessary, decision. Stern likely will remain in a holding pattern until Arenas’ legal fate is determined, as he did in 2007 with Stephen Jackson, who was suspended for seven games after pleading guilty to a felony count of criminal recklessness for firing a gun outside of a strip club.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: Sources: NBA could suspend Arenas

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the January 6, 2010

The league’s most recent collective bargaining agreement with the players’ union, introduced in the summer of 2005, enacted stricter rules against firearms than the NBA previously enforced, allowing players to own registered weapons but strictly prohibiting gun possession on any team property (arena or practice facility) or at any team function, including promotional appearances.
The three-game suspension of Golden State’s Chris Mills in 2002 for allegedly possessing a gun in a postgame incident involving the Portland Trail Blazers and then-Blazer Bonzi Wells is widely considered the spark for Stern’s determination to push for more rigid anti-gun language in the last labor pact.
No gun-related suspension in the NBA in the 2000s has resulted in a suspension longer than the seven-game ban received by Stephen Jackson in 2007. Jackson pled guilty to one count of felony criminal recklessness after firing five shots into the air in a dispute outside an Indianapolis strip club in 2006 involving then-teammate Jamaal Tinsley, during which Jackson was hit by a car.

Cleveland Strip Clubs: NBA must make example out of Arenas

Posted in Cleveland strip clubs by cleveland-stripper on the January 6, 2010

… I mean, look at the situation,” Harris, who doesn’t own a gun, told the
newspaper. “A lot of guys have been robbed. A couple of guys, God rest their
souls, have passed away. I guess they feel like they need some sort of
protection, I don’t know. I can’t speak for everybody. I’d say between 60 and
75 percent (of players own guns).”
Absent of a change in federal law there isn’t much NBA commissioner David
Stern can do as long as his players who do own guns do it in a legal fashion.
Stern did address the issue back in October of 2006 after Stephen Jackson,
then with the Indiana Pacers, shot his gun in the air outside an Indianapolis
strip club. The commish described it as an “alarming subject” and saying “that
although you’ll read players saying how they feel safer with guns, in fact
those guns actually make them less safe.”
