OBERLIN, Kan. — Kansas State University and the Northwest Kansas Crop Residue Alliance are hosting the Cover Your Acres Winter Conference for crop producers and consultants on Jan. 18 and 19.
The conference will focus on the latest technology, methods and conservation practices to improve crop production on the High Plains. It annually brings in over 500 attendees from the surrounding area.
This year it will feature university specialists and industry representatives discussing issues such as no-till, effect of stripper on stubble height, spray application technology, the K-State wheat-breeding program and double-cropping wheat behind corn or soybeans. The same programs will be offered both days of the conference.
Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m., with educational sessions ending at 5:40 p.m. followed by a “bull session” where attendees can visit with industry and university specialists.

BEREA, Ohio — Mayor Cyril Kleem of Berea and his second cousin Ferris Kleem have never been close.
But their feuding may have reached its peak this fall when they got in a shouting match during a meeting of the Berea City Club.
Feeding the dust-up, Cyril Kleem believes, is his contention that his cousin has been using his association with the charitable City Club to improve his chances of staying out of prison. Ferris Kleem is facing a year or two behind bars for his role in the Cuyahoga County corruption scandal. He has yet to be sentenced.
Among the more sensational admissions in Ferris Kleem’s plea agreement is that he helped pay for County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora and the County Auditor Frank Russo to party it up in Las Vegas and that he personally delivered a prostitute to Dimora’s hotel room.

Funny: When Zoya and Michael were first setting up shop, they encountered language and cultural barriers. The East Side of Cleveland was very different from Odessa in southern Ukraine.

Most copies were destroyed and today it is a prized rarity.

Daruis Clark was convicted of four counts of felonious assault, two counts of child endangering resulting in serious physical harm and two counts of domestic violence.
Clark was arrested in April for beating the 22-month-old girl and 3-year-old boy in March.
His girlfriend, Taheim Traywick, pleaded guilty to permitting child abuse, child endangerment and domestic violence. She will be sentenced Friday.
The 3-year-old had whip marks across his upper back and face. He was also bruised.
The toddler had burns on her chest, face, arm and legs. She also had two black eyes and a badly bruised hand, prosecutor’s spokesman Ryan Miday said.
Police and children services were called March 17 when the boy’s teachers at William Patrick Day School saw his injuries.
Traywick testified at Clark’s trial that she went to Washington, D.C., March 16 to engage in prostitution, Miday said.

For those of you who have been too engrossed watching Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles take on Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans on Thursday night, you may have missed that little basketball game that was going on in the “Mistake by the Lake” aka Cleveland, Ohio when LeBron “who didn’t save their downtown” James had a homecoming of sorts against the team, city and region that he dissed when he decided to “take his services to South Beach.”
And by homecoming, I mean more like a return home for a husband who was just caught by his faithful and dutiful wife spending the family money on Capri, his mistress/secretary, who moonlights as a stripper on the side.  LeBron, or who one of my friends likes to call “LeBum,” was called just about every name in the book when he took the floor against a not-as-talented-anymore Cleveland Cavaliers team.  Oh yeah, and nearby Akron apparently hates him, too, or so the chant goes.
