DETROIT (AP) – Five current or retired Postal Service employees have made their first appearance in federal court in Detroit on accusations of taking bribes from a contractor who fixed vehicles.
Authorities said Thursday the contractor provided cash, cars, tickets to major sporting events and a prostitute for steering work on postal vehicles to his garages in Detroit and Akron, Ohio.
The contractor hasn’t been charged and is identified in the indictments only as “Contractor A.” Bruce Plumb is accused of accepting free sex medication and weekly trysts with a prostitute paid by the contractor. Plumb was the Detroit manager of postal vehicle maintenance until retiring in December.
The 61-year-old Plumb tells The Associated Press he did “visit” with a woman. He calls the case “overblown.”

DETROIT (AP) – Federal prosecutors in Detroit say a contractor provided cash, tickets to major sporting events and prostitutes in exchange for repairing Postal Service vehicles.
The U.S. attorney’s office says five current or former postal employees have been charged with conspiracy. They are due to appear in federal court Thursday.
The contractor billed the government more than $13 million for vehicle work over a 7-year period. The contractor is identified in the indictments as “Contractor A.”
Much of the vehicle work was done in southeastern Michigan, although the government alleges that the corruption stretched to Akron, Ohio, where 1 of the five postal workers was manager of vehicle maintenance. The contractor had a garage in Akron.
