According to Flores’s book, “The Slave Across the Street,” Flores herself was exploited when she was tricked and blackmailed into sexual slavery at the age of 15.
Flores said she was raped, blackmailed and forced into a prostitution ring while a high school student in Detroit. Her story was unusual — her middle-upper-class parents had no idea what their daughter was doing after school.
Her story is not uncommon, Flores said.
According to Flores, Ohio is the fifth leading state for human trafficking. Lorain, she said, is ideal for human trafficking due to its location.
“With Cedar Point opening up, this area is just a high-traveled area,” she said.
Ohio’s large number of strip clubs, high immigrant population and tourist attractions, such as Cedar Point and Lake Erie, are all desirable for those who operate human trafficking rings, Flores told the group Saturday.

One owned a photo business and another owned and rented Florida condominiums. Several ran construction-related businesses or independently sold or appraised real estate.
Other common secondary employment requests included work as firefighters or police officers in other cities or at local universities, seasonal work de-icing airplanes at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and emergency service jobs for ambulance companies and local hospitals.
A handful of firefighters were approved to work other government jobs, including one who reported working six to 10 hours per week as the safety director for the suburb of Parma Heights.
One firefighter who owed more than 1,000 trade hours was a manager at Christie’s Cabaret, a Cleveland strip club. Another, with a 2,700 hour deficit, was vice president of a road striping company.

Renowned American actor Matthew Chandler Fox caught media’s attention after getting involved in a substance abuse act that landed him behind the bars in Oregon. Apparently, Matthew Fox was on his way to a local restaurant at 3:23 a.m. along with another passenger in the car. The police suspected substance abuse because of which he was pulled over, tested and proven guilty. Fortunately he was released from custody later the same day. He will be appearing in the court on June 7 to give an explanation for violating law.

Secret Service scandal widens with misconduct allegations in El Salvador, Argentina, Russia

The Secret Service is under fire because of allegations that 11 of its agents caroused with prostitutes immediately before President Barack Obama’s visit to Colombia earlier this month. Now comes word of a similar incident in El Salvador in 2011 and other questionable incidents in Argentina and Russia last decade.
The U.S. Secret Service scandal is expanding. Agents may also have caroused with prostitutes or strippers in El Salvador in 2011, Argentina in 2009 and possibly Moscow in the early 2000s.
That’s according to a series of media reports in recent days that seem to cast doubt on what had been the prevailing message: the Colombia incident was isolated and not indicative at all of a college of boys gone wild.

More agents will be forced out of the Secret Service as early as Thursday, a US lawmaker said, as the White House warned foes not to “politicise” the prostitution scandal blighting the agency.
“It is our understanding the resignations could come today or tomorrow,” Republican Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, told AFP, a day after three of the elite presidential protection agency’s 11 employees involved were forced to leave.
King did not say how many more agents might lose their jobs over the misconduct, in which the agents as well as 10 military personnel allegedly visited a strip club, cavorted with prostitutes and drank heavily in Cartagena, Colombia while preparing security for President Barack Obama who attended a regional summit there.

The federal agency initially installed eight filtration systems with air strippers and carbon filters in 1994, but two households switched to city water at their own expense. A ninth home rejected the equipment.
Workers will close the private wells at the properties being connected to the public water so future residents do not unknowingly use contaminated water.
Beginning in June, the EPA also plans to install equipment in 10 houses and condominiums to ensure harmful vapors are not coming through the ground and affecting indoor air.
Last year, the EPAs tested the indoor air in 43 houses and condominiums near the Copley Square Plaza for volatile organic compounds.

Contamination also was discovered in nine residential wells off South Plainview Drive. Air strippers and carbon filters were placed on eight wells. A ninth homeowner declined the EPA’s offer of assistance.

Akron, Ohio — A lawyer for Jimmy Dimora repeatedly references the salacious nature of photographs in written objections to the public release of exhibits used to convict Dimora of racketeering.
Defense attorney William Whitaker argues that the exhibits — including photos of Dimora at a Las Vegas pool frequented by strippers — would prejudice prospective jurors against his client in a second corruption trial scheduled for October.
Whitaker filed the motion Friday, after prosecutors submitted a list of exhibits they believe should be made public, either in their entirety or with portions redacted, based on an earlier ruling by U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi.
