In April 2000, actor Louis Gossett Jr. dropped a paperback, purchased at a yard sale, on director Frank Martin’s desk. The book told the story of black soldiers who fought in defense of their country.
“As soon as I saw it, I thought this would make a good documentary,” said Martin, who is based in Encino, Calif. Even though he makes his living doing reality shows and adult entertainment for clients like the E! network and the Playboy Channel, Martin’s heart and soul go into his award-winning documentaries.

1984 Nauset Regional High School graduate and Brewster native Jack Sherman was the editor on “For Love Of Liberty,” a two-part, four-hour documentary on the history of America’s black soldiers.
