In a group home, Roden will still spend several hours a day in an intensive program designed to help the mentally ill cope with their illness and build skills to live independently, doctors said. However, there would be fewer security limitations. And Roden, who is borderline mentally retarded, would eventually be allowed to venture into the community and find a job.
Prosecutors argued Roden is likely to stop taking his medicine without close supervision. Medical records show that he has inquired multiple times about ending his treatment and complained about sexual side effects. Roden also has requested access to pornography and prostitutes. Doctors said they believe those requests were made out of frustration, but prosecutors said they believe his desires for sexual activity could lead him to quit his medication.
