Cleveland Massage Parlors: Sir John A. Macdonald’s suspected Scottish birthplace awaits wrecking ball

Renewed interest in the birthplace of Canadaâs first prime minister was sparked four years ago by a Canwest News Service investigation into the state of a two-story building in Glasgowâs historic Merchant City district that had long been linked with Macdonaldâs early years.
Born in January 1815 to parents Hugh and Helen Macdonald, the future Father of Confederation spent just five years in Glasgow before the family emigrated to Kingston, Ont., in what was then Upper Canada.
Records from Macdonaldâs days in Scotland are scant, but the only surviving building definitively associated with the family from that time, apart from the Ramshorn Kirk, a historic church in the same district, is a dilapidated former pub at 20 Brunswick St. â the Fox and Hound â and a defunct massage parlour upstairs called the New Executive Club.
