Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Lorain County Jail logs from 1800s put on display
ELYRIA â Itâs a profession that requires lots of records, and the Lorain County Sheriffâs Office is displaying four old jail record books in their lobby, some which date back to the 1800s.The books provide glimpses of Lorain Countyâs history in terms of the crimes, punishments, and people. The books are an account of crimes ranging from 13- and 14-year-olds stealing melons to women being arrested for prostitution.âItâs something the county needs to see,â Capt. Jim Drozdowski said.
Itâs a history lesson in more ways than just a criminal history lesson.
âMost people donât understand how old the sheriffâs office is,â Drozdowski said. âThe sheriff was the big law enforcement.â
…
Next to names are crimes such as horse stealing, insanity, adultery, and running a house of ill repute, which Drozdowski said was a prostitution house.

When the Mega Millions jackpot was $540 million, we asked our Facebook friends what “unusual” things they would do if they hit the big prize. Many said they would assist charities and relatives, but several had some novel ideas both serious and otherwise.
Feel free to add your ideas in the comments section below the story.
Johnny: I’d buy all the local news stations and prevent them from ever having another minute by excruciating minute of a “snowpocalypse” event.
Joyce: I’d run naked through downtown.
Elizabeth: build a safehouse/emergency shelter for girls picked up for prostitution (girls who are being trafficked) to come to in the middle of the night to stay until they can get into a long term rehabilitation facility. And probably get a dog

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions return to Cleveland in two weeks, and rest assured your pals at Scene will be there to chronicle all the action and devour any free cheese cubes that may come our way in the process.
But as the eyes of the world turn to our humble burg yet again, we figured nows a good time to spruce the place up a bit. Thats why weve united with the Rock Hall and 20 of Clevelands finest artists to help shape up our street boxes in advance of the 10 days of rock-centric activities leading up to the April 14 inductions.
But what was wrong with your handsome white boxes? you might ask, what with their dent accents and flourishes of rust. To put it simply, they werent rocking your world quite like wed like them to.Enter the artists, who were tasked with conceiving their own designs for our existing boxes, then making their visions a reality over the past two weekends.
Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Slavery continues under our very noses: editorial
Pearline Richardson inadvertently summed it up. When the 16-year-old girl she allegedly was pimping out of an Independence hotel cried and pleaded with Richardson to let her go, Richardson told her, “You need to straighten your face. . . . You don’t matter. Money matters,” according to an affidavit filed by federal prosecutors in the child sex-trafficking case pending against Richardson in U.S. District Court in Cleveland.
…
The majority of the defendants operated out of Toledo — where a confluence of interstate highways create a strategic location for modern-day slave traders. But Cleveland had its share: Timothy Davis is serving 54 months for prostituting a juvenile at a hotel in North Olmsted. Chardee Barfield and Ernest McClain were indicted in February for allegedly pimping a minor at hotels in Mentor and Wickliffe. McClain is in jail, awaiting trial. Barfield is on the run. And then there is Sonora Armstrong, 30, who pleaded guilty on Monday for trafficking a 15-year-old girl from Cleveland to Richmond, Va.

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Cleveland woman admits transporting a 15-year girl to Virginia for prostitution
U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach will speak today at the City Club about the extent of human trafficking in the area and efforts to combat the problem.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland woman is facing 10 years to life in prison after admitting her role in transporting a 15-year-old girl from Cleveland to Richmond, Virgina, for prostitution.

The Cleveland woman will by sentenced by U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson of the Eastern District of Virginia on June 15. Armstrong was identified in court records as a prostitute.

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Ron Paul’s spot in Harry “X” Sysack billboard history
At first, I was shocked and horrified. What came back from a Flickr result page were some of the most over-the-top political billboard paintings one could imagine. They are lectures to a vehicular audience at the busy intersection of State Road and Pearl Road; offering of “affirmative action pricing” for sign making, Obama being lectured by a spanking, a swastika on a green blackboard while a teacher how Hitler was the first green president. They elicit a shocking response, and that’s clearly their intent.
Digging through my contacts within the ranks of rabble-rousing libertarians, I was able to ascertain the chain of events in the ownership of the sign. A Columbus Ohio PAC had done the payment processing, but a local Ron Paul meetup member had actually suggested the location. I spoke with him and he seemed to not know as much about the company’s history as as provocative placement pimp.

Akron, Ohio — A lawyer for Jimmy Dimora repeatedly references the salacious nature of photographs in written objections to the public release of exhibits used to convict Dimora of racketeering.
Defense attorney William Whitaker argues that the exhibits — including photos of Dimora at a Las Vegas pool frequented by strippers — would prejudice prospective jurors against his client in a second corruption trial scheduled for October.
Whitaker filed the motion Friday, after prosecutors submitted a list of exhibits they believe should be made public, either in their entirety or with portions redacted, based on an earlier ruling by U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi.

Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Now a good time to spring into a book
Can the resurrected slaves breathe life back into the Fletcher farm? Having brought the slaves back from graves that his father sent them, can Billy be the kind master his father wasn’t? Is keeping the farm worth denying the men the freedom they earned with death?
Billy’s conscience holds the key to those mysteries, but not the biggest one: what does Abraham really want from the former slave owner’s son?
Schwamberger also recently published “Two Men, a Rat, and a Lady.” Steve and Marc are two men with nothing much going on in their lives. They work little, live in a rat-infested apartment, sponge off the government and enjoy the simple things in life: booze, cigarettes and women. It’s on one lonely night they decide to take their wasted lifestyle to the next level … by calling Miss Jena’s Escort Service.
Cleveland Adult Entertainment: Message hits home on human trafficking
Today, Mrs. Staniero said, it is estimated that 27 million people are enslaved around the world, about double the population of Ohio. It ranks as the second largest criminal industry and the fastest growing one, she said, with annual receipts estimated at about $30 billion.
It is an industry that preys on vulnerable people, she said, seeking those who are poor, have low self-esteem or come from troubled homes. Around the world, enslaved people are put to work as child soldiers, in pay-for-sex operations, as domestic servants, farm workers, in mines and hotels, she said.
The sex trade is one of the more prolific of forced labors, and a short film provided some insight to that world. It chronicled two girls from Toledo, ages 14 and 15, who were abducted on their way to get a treat from a fast-food restaurant. They were forced, under the threat of violence, to work at truck stops as prostitutes.
